National Qualifier's Bios...

Dartmouth
We are Dartmouth Ultimate and have been around since 1977 and are going strong. We strive for excellence in ultimate, practicing, lifting and training 4 or 5 days a week. We play the sport we love and travel the country to do it. The Pain Train’s most veteran players have competed in 14 states in recent years and our team is the single most important thing to us outside of academics at Dartmouth. We enjoyed our first UOA experience, going 8-0 and earning the Ivy League crown. Hopefully we can continue to achieve at Nationals in this new league.

Pittsburgh
Pitt Ultimate has been playing in UOA tournaments since the Fall 2009 UOA 8s. UOA tournaments have since been an interest for Pitt because of the active observers, accurately lined fields, and the precision at which UOA runs their tournaments. Going 8-0 in both the Fall 2009 UOA Wilmington 8s and the Big East UOA tournament, Pitt is looking forward to the opportunity of winning another UOA tournament.

James Madison
The JMU Hellfish are a hungry team returning a large number of players from what we considered a disappointing season last year, and are seeking to push our program to the next level. After our first experience with the UOA observing system in the spring of 2010, all of our players were impressed. We have had great experiences and success at both the Spring 8s and the CAA Championships and we are excited to continue playing in the system and hope to continue our success at UOA Nationals.

Virginia
UVA Night Train has been a part of UOA events since their inception in Fall 2009. From that point on we were hooked on active observers, competing in one UOA tournament in each of our past 4 seasons. Our depth and experience helped us to an 8-0 weekend at UOA ACCs, and we look to take that as momentum into this weekends UOA Nationals.
Lets go Wahoos! FBGM

Tennessee
The University of Tennessee's Agent Orange has been in pursuit of that elusive spring nationals bid for quite some time now, and we believe this is the year we will finally accomplish that goal. We've experienced many tough losses and great victories in the past few years, but now Tennessee has built up a solid core of talented athletes to compete at a high level. Agent Orange has been on the front line of the UOA, and we hope to continue our relationship with this system. This will be our 3rd 8's event, and judging from our strong showings at each of those previous tournaments, we hope to continue to make noise at UOA Fall Nationals.

Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech BURN has been around for nearly 25 years, and since it's inception has yet to have a roster as capable and talented as this years. UOA 8s was the highlight of BURN's spring season in 2010, where VT made it to its first tournament championship game in years. This fall, they have continued to showcase their talent at UOA events, finishing second at UOA ACC's and only losing to one team, UVA. UOA Nationals is the culmination of everything that BURN has been working for in the fall and will hopefully be their springboard to continued success.

Brandeis
Brandeis "TRON" Ultimate, while not the oldest team around, has established itself as a worthy opponent in a short amount of time. We play in a tough region and work hard to keep up with the high level of competition around us. This requires tough practices with rigorous conditioning, which we try to balance with a carefree, fun and caring atmosphere. We try to foster, as a team, a love for the sport of Ultimate along with an appreciation for teamwork and the spirit of the game. The Ivy League tournament was our first chance to play with active observers, and we felt that it kept the game running very smoothly, and it helped with a lot of the nonsense that happens during a typical game.

UConn
UConn ultimate is an old program, but only recently has it begun to truly grow. In the spring of 2009, we made regionals for the first time in over a decade. We now have a solid B-team and a group of experienced upperclassman to lead the way. This will be our third UOA tournament. We are excited about playing every game with observers and about getting some quality experience playing some of the best teams in the country. This fall we finally picked a team name: Grind. We believe that it speaks to our ability to play hard and grind out points no matter what the circumstances are.

The Ultimate Observers Association is proud to announce the 9 man UOA National Championship Observer crew.

If you haven't heard, the UOA is excited and proud to announce the UOA College National Championship!

The UOA College National Championship will consist of 64 teams playing 8 conference tournaments. The 8 conference winners will qualify for the UOA College National Championship in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Conference tournaments will be hosted by member schools. We are targeting the ACC, Big East, SEC, Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, CAA and Ivy League conferences.

We will fill empty team spots with out of conference teams OR we will “create” a conference from interested teams, as NAIA and small conference teams have already expressed interest in competing.

The 8 conference tournaments will be during the fall, from mid-September thru mid-October 2010. The National Championship will be held in mid to late November 2010.

The events will be played under the UOA Laws of Ultimate with UOA trained observers. Each conference tournament and the championship event in Myrtle Beach will feature a simple format, 8 teams, 1 pool, 7 pool games and a final placement game for all 8 teams (1v2, 3v4, 5v6, 7v8). All conference games and championship games will have UOA trained observers.

We are inviting member teams to host the conference tournaments.
The host team’s entry fee will be waived and they will be paid to handle a very few tournament responsibilities including, but not limited to, securing 4 lined fields and providing fruit and water.

We have received 35 letters of interest and many offers to host. If your team is in one of our target conferences OR if your team might be interested in filling an empty spot or competing in Conference X (if need be), contact the UOA directly.

Thanks,
